The Information Engineering Department‘s research focuses on the generation, distribution, analysis and use of information in engineering systems.
Our department focuses on six different research areas:
AUTOMATION
Maximizing the efficiency, safety, and performance of autonomous vehicles and robots, smart cities, grids, and advanced industrial systems in the Industry 4.0 vision.
BIOENGINEERING
Mathematical models and technologies used in the most advanced biomedical instrumentation, such as CT and MRI, in innovative life-supporting devices, such as the artificial pancreas, in neuroscience or in motion analysis.
ELECTRONICS
Microchips, innovative circuits, sensors for smartphones and tablets, green energy, photovoltaic systems, LEDs and lasers for lighting and communications, electronics for the digital world, biochips, automotive and space electronics, organic electronics.
COMPUTER ENGINEERING
Search engines, web and social networks, data security, artificial intelligence and robotics, machine learning, supercomputing and big data, computer science for music and multimedia, bioinformatics.
APPLIED OPTICS
Quantum phenomena that secure communications on Earth and in Space or with which we interrogate the foundations of our knowledge of Nature.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Data security and fast, always-on connectivity. Innovative solutions for new applications such as smart energy management, telemedicine and virtual reality.
